Hi guys

I saw a post from (Skipper8) Kathy that asked some of us old timers to make an entry in here.

Well here I am. Thanks Kathy for reminding me I am old. Haha

I am coming up on 8 years in May. Never did I think I would say that. I have known some people in here for those whole 8 years and they can tell you I was a whining can't do this pain in the butt. (No pun intended.)

8 years later I will still tell you it was the hardest thing I ever did in life. That being said it proves it can be done. I quit drinking 18 years ago and quitting smoking was much harder.

My husband quit 15 months ago and I am so proud of him. I think about him quitting and I can't believe it. I think this last quit of his not only did he want it, but there was no way he was doing one more quit and allowing me to be able to do it and not him. Whatever it takes is okay. Just goes to show setting an example for others does work.

I have been here through Kathy's quit and relapse. I remember vividly when she came here to tell us all she had started smoking again and lost her 5  year quit. I was devastated, so I can imagine how she felt. I remember thinking , NO that is not possible. However, it shows it can happen to anyone at anytime and you have to keep vigilant. Like Kathy said, she should have picked up the phone and called someone. Drinking and smoking go hand in hand. The drinking will cloud your mind and make you think , OH just one it can't hurt. That one will lead you right back.

There are so many new names in here. I am sorry I have not been here to meet you all but just know one thing...YOU HAVE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE. Not only will you get support to help you quit this nasty addiction but you just may meet some very good friends in here. I know I have, and I am grateful for everything this place has done.

I hope everyone has a great day and if you haven't tried that quit yet... GET GOING. Its the best thing you can do for yourself.

CARLA (AKA MAMA)

This was my last quit!

Hmm..I really needed to read your post today. I truly believe that I would jepordize my quit whether it's today or in 5 years if I drink alcohol. I have been giving it much thought and the more I think about it the more I realize that I should quit drinking as well. Today I will not smoke or drink any alcohol. I cannot risk my quit,, it means way, way too much.

It helps me greatly to hear from people with long term quits. Thank you so much.

Kevin

It's quite simple, I don't smoke

Everyone says you have to quit for yourself but you don't have to quit by yourself.

What you wrote is so important, Carla. If someone hasn't sent to reader's choice, I certainly am. It delights me so much that your husband is still quit...what a wonderful thing! Thank you for being such a good example to all of us here.
