This was my reading for today in Jamie Sams' Earth Medicine:

Crow Medicine--Divine Law

Feed your strengths and you will flourish.
Support your trivial weaknesses and you will languish,
while your shadow flourishes and becomes strong.

"When we pick on ourselves, the shadowy sides of our natures are given strength. This misuse of our freewill allows the shadow side to feed on our usable life force, inviting disaster."

"When we continue to express ourselves freely, using our strengths to direct our efforts, we find balance and essential wholeness. When we support what is most creative and positive within us, and refuse to give in to anything that weakens our resolve, we find new strengths available, flowing unaided into our beings. This is Divine Law..."

"...and refuse to give in to anything that weakens our resolve, we find new strengths available, flowing unaided into our beings..."
It bears repeating because this is exactly what happens when we say NO to whatever it is we are removing from our lives. When we do not give in, confidence grows...the strength we always thought belonged to others we can now see in ourselves. This was true for me in my quit.

The other idea that struck me this morning is about actually feeding my strengths, feeding the positives in my life. It never fails that when I forget to do this, my days proceed badly. Coming to QSJ to read, write, and support others is time very well spent. I'm grateful for the opportunity.

Happy Tuesday :)

This IS the transition I am experiencing...still getting there, I pray daily that God will control my will so that I get properly fed spiritually.  I tend to beat myself up...it's been an ongoing pattern for a long time...it's hard to break the cycle, but it can be done!!

Good words here.  I want to live by them, I really do.  I stuggle.  I thought by this age I would be at a place in my life where I would have the strength to live the way you describe above.  Not there yet, but I am working on it.  Thanks for posting this Kat.

As usual..word of Wisdom from you...

My dear Kathleen Thank you for your wishes and Kind words in my Journal.

QSJ (and you folks) have been amazing. It is this site and you folks here that keep my Quit Intact ...  If Fear, Reward and Motivation can make you "Start" a QUIT, The QSJ site "demotivates" me to take a PUFF...Yes..besides motivation, you also need someone to demotivate you to sustain your quit :-)

Stay Quit. Stay Strong. Stay Smoke Free.

Hope things are fine at your end. you dont worry, I have not been a good corrospondent either. :-)

Thank you for your stats. As I read them, I think you need to upgrade teh cost of cigs today. When we quit they were so much less. You may be up to $20,000.00 by now.
Lots of hugs
Heidi

Negative self-talk sucks. A friend of mine once said "it is easier to life someone up when they are young then help them be lifted when they are all grown". Damage gets done sort of thing I think. I think we learn as children to talk negatively to ourselves. Its a hard habit to break but we forget when we are all grown up we do not have to think that way anymore. I know I struggle with it ALL the time.
Love you, Bec

I've been learning Kat, and there is still a way to go, but it's fun! I bought a faceting machine a while ago now, I've cut quite a few gemstones, these are just a couple of them...P.S. I know lifes tough right now for you, but remember who you are and where you have come from and you dont ever want to go back to that right? So keep looking forward, never look back. I read something just today..."What a wonderful thought it is, that some of our best days are yet to happen"! Believe in that Kat, believe it....Ross
You can be a good example....
Or...
A horrible warning!

I missed this one due to my sketchy posting/reading habits, but am glad I got nosy and searched your journal out!

I had heard it said this way "what you focus on - grows", and I don't remember who told me that but it was simple enough (in theory anyway!).

I find life to be such a challenge these days...knowing how I want to grow and be and yet my negative thinking habits seem to be so deeply ingrained, you know?

I always find your ideas and encouragement very helpful.

Barb
