Early last october, my youngest step-son Scott was taken to a hospital where they diagnosed kidney failure and had him ambulanced up to Des Moines (Iowa)..He was complaining of double vision, but not the cross-eyed kind but rather up and down double vision sorta like his elevator was stopped on 2 different floor's..They scanned him and saw a mass on the back of his brain that they were unsure of so they moved him to Iowa City (University of Iowa) for further testing and evaluations..He was diagnosed with end stage double renal failure and vascular hyperemia (sic) It's where a blood vessel in his brain swells up, burst's, closes and goes on to find another weak vessel in the brain and does it continually..Luckily that part is not fatal..When he was in Iowa City, I'd drive down to Grand River and pick up his daughter Sebrina and together we'd make the drive up to see her dad..I told Abby I didn't care the cost as he needed her love and she his..(BTW, Grand River is 70 miles south of Des Moines and Iowa City is 115 miles East)..After the usual big hospital bouts of staph infection, they finally released him and Sebrina and I made the drive to bring him home..He has to have dialysis 3 times a week as Abby stated but the hospital he has to do in is in Creston Iowa which is around 40 miles west of Grand River..He was okay'd for social security disability but it won't start until february after his works long-term disability runs out..He's an "at fall" risk because well..because..He can't be alone because of that and that hurts his pride but he understands..He has some help down there but not much..So 3x a week I get up at 4:30 and make the trip down to get him to Creston by 7:00 for his dialysis..drop him off, drive back to Des Moines and go to work..I'm not complaining in any way shape or form..He applied for something that will shuttle him to and fro..But I don't know when it kicks in..Until then..Live!! Laugh!! Love!!
