MY FATHER HAS BEEN IN THE HOSPITAL SINCE JUNE 12TH. HE WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO COME HOME FOR THE DAY OR AFTERNOON. HE HAS LOST THE USE OF HIS THROAT. HE HAS A FEEDING TUBE AND WILL NEVER EAT AGAIN. THIS HAS THE BE THE HARDEST FOR HIM AS THE HOT WEATHER THIS SUMMER BLISTERED HIS LIPS AND LEFT HIM PARCHED. ANYTHING HE EATS OR DRINKS GOES INTO HIS LUNGS AND CAUSES PHNEUMONIA. IT COMES ON IN A MATTER OF HOURS AND IS DEBILITATING. IT TAKES HIM LONGER AND LONGER TO RECOVER AND SOMEDAY IT WILL TAKE HIS LIFE. HE LIVES OFF OF A CAN OF PROTIEN ENRICHED DRINKS DRIPPED LIKE AN IV THROUGH THE FEEDING TUBE. THE CANS HAVE BEEN LABELED WITH HIS FAVORITE MEALS ( MOOSE STEW, SQUID, CHICKEN AND RICE ..... HE REFUSED THE LIVER AND ONIONS SO MANY TIMES THEY HAD TO RELABEL THE CAN LOL). HE KNOWS IT IS ALL THE SAME STUFF BUT IT MAKES IT T LITTLE EASIER FOR HIM THINKING HE HAS A CHOICE.WHEN THEY PUT IN HIS FEEDING TUBE THEY FOUND STOMACH CANCER AND WE ARE AWAITING THE RESULTS OF HIS CT SCAN TO SEE IF IT HAS SPREAD. WE HAVE DISCOVERED THE NUMBER 1 CAUSE OF STOMACH CANCER IS SMOKING. AND I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED IF THE PROBLEMS WITH HIS THROAT IS SMOKING RELATED. WE HAVE BEEN SPENDING AS MUCH TIME AS WE CAN WITH HIM....HE IS 3 HOURS AWAY SO I ONLY GO ONCE A WEEK NOW. HE DOESN'T COMPLAIN MUCH AND STILL LOVES TO HAVE FUN. WE HAVE LEARNED A LOT FROM HIM AND NOW WE ARE LEARNING THAT EACH DAY IS A GIFT AND NO MATTER HOW BAD IT GETS THERE IS ALWAYS TIME TO PLAY AND SMILE.

being with my father the last few months of his life gave all of us a whole new prespective on life. It actually is a wonderful gift that few have experienced. He is a true blessing and you will cherish him forever. So laugh with him as often as you can. I loved just sitting and watching his favorite tv shows wish him and we would both smile.
