I can't believe how hard it is to give up smoking.  I have the will power of a gnat!  Honestly why can't I just stop?  Have been taking Zyban and the craving is hardly there.  It really works but I keep slipping especially when something stressful happens.  I have paid alot of money to go on Zyban.  I don't want to waste it. I won't have another chance like this for a while and don't want to fail!  My Dad is coming to stay for a month and he smokes like a chimney.  What am I going to do?

It is hard... we are addicts! Welcome to QSJ .. where you will get support! Even if we have Zyban we have to stop buying the cigarettes, stop using them ourselves. We need to do something or rather less than before...

Hang tight! Ask you dad to smoke outdoors!

WELCOME TO QSJ...AND CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR DECISON TO QUIT SMOKING...!

We are all in this journey together...Please be sure to read..."Quit tips Journal" from QSJ home page...also do some extra reading at www.smokeworm.com and www.whyquit.com

I believe that preparation and lists are the key to quitting....working towards that Quit date, by writing a list on why you want to quit smoking, what you will do in place of smoking, the benefits of quitting and how you will approach quitting...(ie., Chantix, nicorette, cold-turkey, etc., )

Remember Knowledge is Power....!

TELL DAD THAT HE MUST SMOKE OUTSIDE AND AWAY FROM YOU....QUITTING IS A JOURNEY AND YOU NEED TO START MAKING CHANGES TO YOUR LIFE...LIMIT WHERE AND WHEN YOU CAN SMOKE....AND THEN QUIT TOTALLY...!

Have a beautiful day...!

Hugs Colleen

It's hard but you can do it.  Come back everyday--a couple of times a day.

Welcome here, you are going to love being a nonsmoker.  Just do it one craving at a time.  All cravings pass.  There is no such thing as a neverending crave.  They will pass.

What are you going to do? You are going to pull yourself up by your bootstraps and come up with OTHER things to do when life gets stressful. And then you are going to practice doing those things until they begin to help ease the stress...until they are just as second nature as smoking was. Our bodies fought like hell against that first cigarette: coughing, dizzy, nauseous, yes? Everything takes practice.

Make a list of reasons why you want to stop smoking that you can carry around at all times. Add to it the other ways you can try alleviating stress if it visits you. And if your father is determined to smoke, ask him to please do it outside and away from you.

Quitting smoking has a lot to do with attitude. You've got so much fight and courage inside you, but you don't believe it yet. You can do this! We are all here right beside you :)

"When you quit, your forevers will come to you."

Thanks everyone

It really does help to get encouragement and support.  I am being strong and taking it one craving at a time as Missdaphne suggests.  Thanks for the advice.
