Hey there ladles and jellyspoons! Hope this evening finds you well.
It's been a while since my last post as I've been a bit under the weather and spending most of my time in bed. At least being sick made it easier to resist cravings. I've had a few nightmares lately about smoking though, really odd ones too. The first one involved me being an ashtray and people wouldn't stop putting their cigarettes out on me. It was horrible, my eyes were burning from the smoke and the pain from all the lit cigarettes was just horrible (good thing it was just a dream :P). Besides those types of dreams I've had a few that were just going about a typical day and lighting up a cigarette just before I woke up (always wake up before I exhale the first puff). Makes those early morning cravings a little bit harder.
But at least I still haven't caved in yet, coming up on two weeks nicotine free soon. I've been avoiding a lot of friends and social events lately because a lot of my friends smoke and most of the events involve alcohol. But, so far I've done very well around the relatives that smoke and I've had my first beer tonight since I quit and it was soo much more enjoyable without cigarettes ruining the taste. So I'm starting to plan a nice little garden party for some time next month, it will be nice to get back to my social life.
I also found another great plus of quitting: I started taking up drawing portraits again to give my hands something to do and to distract my mind and I had forgotten how relaxing it is. I'm falling in love with art all over again, it's wonderful :) Also a great confidence booster. I'm planning on drawing a full family portrait for my mother's birthday (since my older brother lives far away we can't get any new family photos taken). It will be nice to be able to do that without smoke discolouring the picture and the potential of ash dropping on the picture and ruining it.
I started rereading The Art of War again and trying to think of it in terms of quitting smoking and it's been very interesting (especially the portion on spies, it fits quite well).
Have a good night everyone, and keep up the quit! >Parabellum<

Those smoking dreams still shake me up, years later. I am always so relieved to wake and find that I am still clean. "Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon." Don't know who said it first but I like it.

Hi Para. I have had The Art of War on my bookshelf forever and never got around to reading it, will be fun to see how I can relate it to quitting. Get well soon.

Congrats on your quit...Your doing great....I quit drinking 23 years ago and I still have a drunk dream once in a blue moon...I do have a smoking dreams once in awhile...
The great thing is that it's only a dream......It's real simple you can't get drunk if you don't have that first drink...Same thing with smokes...You can't have the first one .....no matter what...
Great reading your post today...I am so happy your so young and quitting .....Your life will be happier and healthier....Hugs Today is a good day for I woke and didn't smell roses or hear organ music, which means God has given me another day.

Good that you have found a way to keep your hands busy and it is turning out to be so enjoyable. Your mother will love that family portrait, much more imaginative and personal than just snapping a picture.
