Hi my screen name name is Saggittarius, I have been smoking for 45 years.
I am now smoking brand and cigarettes per day,
at my worst I was smoking brand and 30 cigarettes per day.
I want to quit smoking because cigarettes are running my life....I refuse to go to places where I can't smoke....friends houses restaurants....and worse yet I was not wanting to babysit and/or have my grandchildren overnight because I knew I would not (could not) smoke when they visited.
I started when I was 11 years old and have tried to quit 0 times before.

Quit Aid Used Order of Use Length of Quit (months)

Please describe any other quit aids you used:
I started using Champix June 25, 2010.....that is also the day I decided I was not going to smoke in the house anymore.....I was supposed to set a "quit date" and when I tried that I stayed up the night before chain smoking.....so I figured what the heck...these pills are supposedly "magic" so I'm just going to keep on smoking until the pill kicks in...lol...low and behold a week later I had gone from 1 1/2 packs a day to 10 cigarettes then down to 4 cigarettes a day......I just did not have the urge to smoke...I just didn't think about it other than in instances of "HABIT".....one morning I got up and out of habit grabbed a coffee went outside and lit a cigarette. I took three puffs and asked myself "what am I doing...I really don't want this cigarette". I put it out and haven't smoked since...( on my third week).

Please use this area for any additional comments:
I realise that the pills are doing a lot to remove the thoughts/wants/needs for smoking but I am finding that breaking the habit is what's most difficult......it's like there is something missing....I really see where people turn to eating and I am seeing that it's merely the need to replace the cigarette.

I just finished speaking with the person who was my inspiration and she was on Champix too but ran out and she says someone told her the urge comes back as soon as you quit the pills....I was DEVASTATED to hear that....we chatted for a while and she agreed that we will do this together so that in itself was encouraging as well as reassuring....

After having chatted with her it became very apparent to me that there is so much that is psychological when it comes to quitting smoking such as her friend telling her you get the urge once you stop taking the pill...it's almost as if it's your "excuse" to start up again.....

which is what brings me to this site....I sufred many other sites who of course are either trying to sell books or their own types of remedies to quit smoking or charging people to obtain support. I was very impressed when I saw this site didn't charge....then again....I've just registered and this is my first entry....looking forward to receiving/giving others support in any way I can so that in the end we can all beat this "DEMON"

Please submit this as my first journal entry: yes

Hey Sagg, congrats on 2+ weeks, especially on your first quit. Awesome. I feel for you about the "something missing"... cigarettes have been part of your days for a long time, but I think you are doing amazing and sounds like your quit buddy will be a big help and support.

Welcome to the group!! There is so much
I want to tell you but would have to write]
a disertation and it would
probably overwhelm you!!
But first YAY on three weeks
be very flipping proud because that is awesome!!
I smoked from 10 until right before I turned
48 so I get it..I smoked so long and hard that
I had to relearn what life was really like!!
But I am at 15 months and WOW..it's amazing..
Not everyone gets the urge back when they quit Chantix..
how long are you going to use it??
at this point the nico is out of your system
and it's just a matter of starting some new
habits..My worst times were driving, the phone,
and after meals...
my replacements the first few months were
cinnamon sticks or suckers for driving,
sunflower seeds in the shells for after meals,
and doodling for phone calls...
now I can relax because I am comfortable in my quit
and nothing really triggers me anymore..
OK OK I will shut up for now..but
I will be watching and Ill be back

welcome here, you are going to love being a nonsmoker.  don't be too discourage by what you friend had to say.  every quit is unique.  your quit has to be about  you.
"Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon." Don't know who said it first but I like it.

You have come to the right place - there is a wonderful group of quitters here who have supported me non-stop throughout my quit (19 weeks).  I had all the ups, downs, sideways, and in-betweens during the first month.  It is not easy but it is so worth it.  I almost convinced myself I didn't want this badly enough so I should just start smoking again.  I felt it seemed so easy for everyone else to quit and so hard for me.  Basically I tried every excuse in the book to find a way to justify my smoking, but if you come here often and if you are honest and if you are willing to work hard, you will find there is no way to justify it.  I still miss smoking but my life is so much better without it!  So stay strong and post often.  Welcome aboard - another soldier in the war against smoking is always welcome here.

Champix was a great help to me and I just ended up weaning myself off of it , as I did not seem to need it any more - I found stress and alcohol a bigger trigger than stopping the Champix -

You are doing great - Welcome to QSJ !

Welcome to the site.  You will find everyone here very supportive and encouraging.  Post often and read all you can.  The psychological aspect of quitting is sometimes the hardest thing to get through, changing habits of a lifetime is not easy but is certainly worth the effort.  You will realise the longer you are quit how much effort and time was taken up with smoking.

You are doing great.

Dewey

This IS the place -- friendly, supportive, family-like, enduring, awesome. I am amazed at your wonderful success. Just keep coming here and it will continue. I agree with just about all the noters: this habit is mind over matter, so fighting the psychological battles will take front and center at times. You are wise to realize, so soon, that overeating is just a replacement of addictions. I am quit almost 11 months now and have put on big amount of pounds. Finally, I am beginning to reverse that process. We have different things to help you, like NOPE -- not one puff ever.
Welcome. Sit down, relax and have a wonderful day.
Charry Lou
