We can offer support and a place to come and talk. Quitting is a little tough but very manageable.

Good luck, Acadian, this is the place to be for support and advice.  Just remember, cravings are ALWAYS temporary, no matter how intense they get, you just gotta ride them out until they pass, because they ALWAYS do.

Congratulations on your decision to take back your life from cigarettes, life is so much better without them!

It is easier to get through a craving when you "DON'T" have a cigarette in one hand and a lighter in the other.Occupy your time with other things. Avoid situations where others around you smoke.......john quit 4-7-02

Welcome to the journals and our on line home and family. The main ingredients to a successful quit are desire+education+perserverance+support=quit.

Desire=You have to want to quit

Your here and that means that you are ready now you need to strenghten that desire by educating your self

Education=read and learn what smoking does to your body and what the tobacco companies have and will continue to do to hook you and the next generations, read about others and what they have done to make and maintain quits.Through reading you will understand how difficult this journey may be but you will also learn what the real potientials to your health are and how much better off you will be when you take charge of your addiction. You will see how others have refused to give in how they have perserved through different challenges in thier lives to become smoke free

Perseverance=Stay after it dont quit the quit this is the  real key, quitting may be difficult but its through trail and error that we suceed you may slip but remember those slips are the stepping stones to success they are not signs of weakness. You will find  the support here of many who have traveled the road you are on

Support=learn to recieve and give  thier is no greater gift in the world then being able to reach out and help another, the hand that reaches out for help today is the hand that reaches out to help others tomorrow.Quitting can mean the difference between life and death, between health and illness

GOOD LUCK FIGHT HARD YOU WILL WIN

Hello and welcome to our QSJ family, so glad you decided to start a journal.  Check out the quit tips journal and some of the links on the home page.  You have most definately come to the right place.  I will be in chat this afternoon if you would like to join me again.

Welcome to the quit smoking journey, we are here for you.  Come and shout "help" when you need it.

Have a sparkling, SMOKE FREE DAY....

Tips for the First Week

Nicotine is a powerful addiction. If you have tried to quit, you know how hard it can be. People who are trying to quit smoking go through both physical and psychological withdrawal. Here are some tips for quitting.

Cravings

Drink a lot of liquids, especially water.
Try herbal teas or fruit juices.

Limit coffee, soft drinks, and alcohol - they can increase your urge to smoke.

Avoid sugar and fatty food. Try low-calorie foods for snacking - carrots and other vegetables, sugarless gum, air-popped popcorn, or low-fat cottage cheese. Don't skip meals.

Exercise regularly and moderately. Regular exercise helps. Joining an exercise group provides a healthy activity and a new routine.

Get more sleep. Try to go to sleep earlier and get more rest.

Take deep breaths. Distract yourself. When cravings hit, do something else immediately, such as talking to someone, getting busy with a task, or taking deep breaths.

Change your habits. Use a different route to work, eat breakfast in a different place, or get up from the table right away after eating.

Do something to reduce your stress. Take a hot shower, read a book, or exercise.

Psychological Needs

  • Remind yourself every day why you are quitting.
  • Avoid places you connect with smoking.
  • Develop a plan for relieving stress.
  • Listen to relaxing music.
  • Watch a funny movie.
  • Take your mind off a problem and come back to it later.
  • Rely on your friends, family, and support group for help.
  • Avoid alcohol. It lowers your chances for success.

Bright Blessings ~Lynn~ Quit 9/8/2003

I wish you luck and welcome you.  You will love being a nonsmoker.
