As some of you know my assistant Bonnie and I created a literacy program 5 years ago meant to book books into the hands of children who might not get to own any. Owning books as a child is a signifigant indicator in a person becoming fully literate. It is also a source of great pleasure.
Yesterday we gave away our 35,000th book. We actually passed that mark but until Monday I will not know by how much!
We visited a Cree reservation in the northern part of our province. It was an amazing place. 611 students in the elementary school! It was a brilliant day. Today I am tired, we were on the road 7 hours and the hours spent at the school were so exhilerating that I am a bit drained now. Also my thumbs hurt because it is no small thing moving nearly 3000 books. I am very very happy.
My assistant had to run outside to smoke again and again. I am so glad I am no longer such a slave to that ugly habit that I would have to leave the joyful event to get a fix.
"Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon." Don't know who said it first but I like it.

Thank-you, Rose! I am "all over" the place today. I have to laugh at myself at this point, and my ADHD.
I appreciate you posting the quit dates today.
You may have read, hopefully not, my "domino falling" burst of posts about being thrown offline and my efforts to "catch up."
Dargh!
********
I am so thrilled to hear about your program!
I read a quote last night "Having has become the sinister enemy of being." and it stuck with me. It always makes me breathe a sigh of relief for our world when I hear of people being helpful and promoting what really matters in the life of children, vs. the material junk that does nothing substantive for them.
Way to go!
I'm starting to have those unexpected, liberating moments where I realize...."this is what "freedom" from smoking is all about!" Beth
Quit Date: November 21, 2010
You have nothing to gain from smoking, and everything to gain from quitting.

It always warms my heart to hear of people like you, who give of themselves, especially to children.
When I read the paper, and see all what is wrong with the world it makes me feel a little sad.....The world is a bit of a better place with people like you, who do what you do. Thanks for posting that, it made my day! I really hope you are proud of yourself, you really deserve to be!!
I totally hear what you are saying about being grateful for not being a slave any longer to that stinky, filthy and toxic stick and having to miss any part of what sound to be a truly beautiful event and moment.
Freedom from it, is not always easy, but so very worth it. I myself reached 2 weeks today, and am already feeling glimpses at times, of a peace that I never had while smoking. For me it just gets better from here, not out of the woods yet, but far enough along that I can see and feel some of the benefits of being free already.
Take care and all the best to you!

"What if you abandon the journey today and the peace would have come tomorrow"
If I smoke, I'll be right back where I started. Where I started was desperately wishing I could be where I am today
