After the first round of the Foreman v Ali fight in Zaire, Africa in 1974, you could see the fear in Ali.s face. Fear was something he very, very rarely ever experienced. There is a famous shot of him standing there, with that look on his face....he had been hit harder than he expected, and Foreman.s punch was like an Iron bar...
...and Ali knew .....that for the first time in his life, he would lose.....he looked lost...he said nothing...just standing there...because he knew that he would lose this fight physically...so he decided instead, that fear was only an emotion...and that he would win it, with..... his experience......his skill and his knowledge...
That was me, four years ago, pure and simple..addicted to nicotine, hopelessly addicted. I was telling people in March, 2006 that I was going to quit, that I could quit and that I would succeed at it..like everything else.
But after a few short months, there I was, puffing away again....man did I experience some serious fear...the fear of losing.....
Then, when I saw that documentary and the narrator said "Ali went on to develop his famous "rope a dope" fighting style that eventually wore Forman down....till Foreman eventually lost... Ali was successful because he knew himself and he knew his opponent...hence, he knew how to defeat him"
Ali did it right...he won...and so I decided...so was I, I was going to win this addiction fight...
because...I was going to do it right....
First, I respected my enemy (nicotine)
I studied my weaknesses and then studied my enemy's weaknesses (yes nicotine has enemies)
Then I read about others quit strategies, studied those that failed and those that succeeded, I took notes...and had faith that we really do become...what we think....and I changed my thinking .... accordingly...
Then I developed a plan of action ..my own "rope a dope" strategy and quitting strategy from what I learned from myself and others..my very own rope a dope strategy for Nicodemon...cuz we know that old Nick... also hits like an iron bar...
Then I quit,
and did anything...and everything....except killing myself slowly (and softly) with poison...
I would do anything.....but that.....
And so far......, sucessfully
So if your going to quit...and you really mean it... then really mean it and do yourself a favor
do it right...after all..its your "Rumble in the Jungle".......
If your between 1 hour and 3 weeks quit....welcome to the jungle
And maybe you will not have to smoke ever again, and man....you will never know how happy that will make you feel. Just listen to your heart going ..boom boom boom...
Take Care
Pete
All we were, is still...

I don't think it was fear but rather respect of that punch that Ali showed...He realized that indeed all defense was needed and kept his guard up until it was time to pounce..And pounce he did!! Goes to show that we need to keep our defense's up at all times too!!

Pete Knocks Out Nicodemon - What a fight - Oh I remember it well - It was exciting _ I saw no fear in the eyes of our Champ Pete - He went right at it and steadfastly focused in on the job at hand until in the end ol Nicodemon curled up in the ring, totally beaten and then vanished in a puff of smoke - Well done Pete - Well done Pete
Your courage was an example to all of us - thank you
"Never leave another quitter behind" borrowed from BTBasser to whom I owe such a large part of my quit............quit date February 14th 2007
