When people sign up for a new journal these instructions are e-mailed to them as part of their welcome package..... However some of our email gets directed to bulk mail and they don't see it.......

Here are some tips for using the journals----

To make an entry:

Go to the front page of your journal- press on new journal entry – enter your title and then write your journal entry – at the bottom you will notice you have the option of being notified by email when you get a reply to you your entry- the default is yes – press no if you don’t want this.

You may EDIT your entry by pressing on the icon that looks like a book beside your TITLE of your post

You may DELETE your post by pressing on the icon that looks like a "garbage can" beside your TITLE of your post.

To make an journal entry PRIVATE you must enter it ( New Journal Entry) THEN go to the top of your entry and put a check mark in the box that says Private entry THEN press on the very tiny button beside it - that will make it private and it will not show up on the main page or in the latest entry or in your list of journal entries ( except to YOU)

Noting other journalists :

At the bottom of the entry you will see a box in which to post a reply to an entry- write in it and then press enter reply:

You may EDIT NOTES by pressing the EDIT button on the TITLE BAR of your NOTE- you may DELETE your note to a fellow journalist by pressing on the DELETE icon in the same location

You will also see a QUOTE button on the TITLE BAR of your NOTE to fellow journalists- if you press on the QUOTE button of a note, that NOTE will be copied and pasted into a reply at the bottom of the page and then you can add your own comment under it.

You have the ability to change your font colour ( press the colour you want before typing or highlight the words then change colour), change the font to bold, italic , underline---- use the emoticons by pressing on the smiley face and a page come up -

extra tips-once you have entered a smiley you can move it by clicking(when the arrows show up), holding and dragging the smiley to others areas on the working page!  Both entries and notes accept HTML

To configure your journal

To set up your journal for COLOURS AND BACKGROUNDS- press on configure journal (beside your Journal name)- it will take you to a page where you can change the colours- press on CHANGE COLOURS and you will bring up a chart - copy and paste the colour number in the box of the item you want to change to that colour ( be careful sometimes it makes a space at the end which results in a different colour) OR you can type in the colour code.

You may import backgrounds from elsewhere if you wish, or choose from our backgrounds- the instructions are on that page for this.  You also have a block list where you may block someone from accessing your journal if you wish.

Profile

In your profile you can change your signature – add some information about yourself , put in a picture, add a link to your website and more! .   You can make a private Favorite List by adding journalists names to the list – this will appear on your front page and will show you the last date they made a entry- Only you can see this list –

Navigation around QSJ-

JUMP to someones journal with ease press on the little blue book icon beside their name

Bing up the LATEST ENTRIES- go to the top of the page and press on the down arrow beside the box that says READ JOURNALS- scroll down to latest entries and it will bring up the last 100 entries on 10 pages. extra tip- once you go to a journal and leave a note ,press your back button until you return to this page

It is important that you are using the most up to date version of your chosen web browser ( Internet Explorer / Netscape ) - as this is a new site using the most up to date technology it will work best with these versions. Internet Explorer should be version 5.5 or higher and Netscape version 6 - link to upgrade Netscape is on the home page here at the bottom left hand corner.

Please let us know if your having any troubles or script errors - we need to know exactly what the error message says and your web browser and version number of the browser.

To contact us by email or snail mail press on the CONTACT US link on the front page located on the far left hand column or at the bottom.

I hope this helps- if you have any other questions or need more information please leave us a note and we will try to answer it!  If I have left anything out or made any errors please let me know here too LOL

I love this!  And so easy to follow.  I am sending it to my files so I can use it later if someone needs it.
