Hi there every-one
Well I'm not a newbie, have another page this site (tinorossi) can't remeber pass-word or what email addy I had back then, so started over.
Since my last post; Hurray hurray hurray, Wendy has been smoke free from New Years Day, using tablet called Champix, she seems to be doing o.k.
Other news, my mum is still around, continuing to survive emphysema, on oxygen pretty mush 24/7, she still getting around ok, and although I've no doubt she has bad days, she; as mothers do; puts on a brave face.
Dont know my exact quit date, best mate Terry died 4-3-2002 lung cancer, and I'd given up cigs before he passed, on a promise to him that I'd never smoke another ciggy, and I havent; quit cold turkey: Very easy to do when you nurse your best mate till the end.
So please, If you think giving up smoking is a hard thing to do; trust me when I say; leaving this earth of lung cancer is a whole lot harder.
Then there was my mate Dick Okosgo, one of my black belts from Karate days; went to the doctors, diagnosed lung cancer; Dead 5 weeks later; 50 years of age, and for his age a fit person.
So, as many out there have done, and are still suffering through smoking, our family has seen first hand the end results of being a smoker.
Sadly I see young bullet proof teenagers smoking everyday, and in passing I tell them to visit our local hospital cancer word, and spenmd time with a terminally ill cancer patient , usual response: I'm young, it won't happen to me.
On the brighter side, after working in various programs our local community centre as both paid, and volunteer worker many youth programs, I now head one of those programs; be it only 8 hours per week; it's level 4 management, and will open up a few doors and further training oportunities.
Some time ago, Wendy snapped her Achilles Tendon and has only just started walking properly, she's now on a pension; and taking time to go back to school, doing arty stuff.
I'm still out exercising everyday, 8K walk and run every morning, couldnt do that when I was a smoker!
Been getting hot days here in Aussie; a week of 40+, and couple days 44 or 112 degrees.
Well thats me finished for now, look forward to replies, and for all you newbies: no matter what: battle on, stay quit.
from my family to yours, have a wonderful day / night

Hi Tino! We missed you ... I come and go at the site but try to get in here about once a week if nothing else. I started this crazy thing a couple of years ago called exercising and I can't believe how much time it takes! Ha ha... I feel great, but my achilles won't let me run yet, so I am on the elliptical. Tell Wendy if she really wants to exercise to clear it with doc to see if she can run the elliptical pedals backwards - got my heart rate up and got what I needed. Not sure of her shape, but mine is sore and not snapped like hers.
Good to see you here - please keep coming back. If I ever get to Australia we'll look you guys up. You and Groucho - wouldn't that be fun? I am on facebook and we did this 25 things about me and one thing I wrote is that I have friends around the world I'd love to meet to share a glass of wine one day -- Groucho and you would be a couple ... wouldn't that be hilarious? I think I'll pray for that...

Hello and welcome - the story is the same, no matter where you are. Smoking stinks and the addiction is as powerful as it is deadly.
Good reminders for us! Thanks! Please keep stopping in to visit!

Hi Tino!!!!!!!!! I was so pleasantly surprised to see a note from you! I don't get to the site like I used to, but I pop in a few times a week to see what is up. How awesome that Wendy quit! I'm so happy for you! The Champix is supposed to be great! Ack, I remember when your friend passed. It was so sad. And I think about me, and being diagnosed at 52, and I'm still here and I'm healthy and so very, very blessed. I'm incredibly thankful that I quit smoking a couple of years before the diagnosis, so that I could face the disease and not have to battle the addiction.
I am humbled to be one of the survivors. Most that get lung cancer do not survive it. I count each day and thank God for the blessings in that day. I'm grateful a lot. Every single day.
You two wound like life is very good, and that makes my heart sing. Thanks for posting, and thanks for the note, it was so nice to hear from one of my Aussie mates!
Judy Judy
Living with lung cancer since 2007, and still doing it! Smoke free.
