Whew, I am happy to say I remained 100% smokefree this past weekend. For the most part I was not tempted, even though at one point it did seem I was literally surrounded by people smoking. It felt really good not to smoke, felt really right. I did experience some pangs of anxiety now and again, but I just tried to do my best to distract myself until it passed.
At one point one of our neighbors told me she had brought those little grape cigarillos for us to smoke, as that has been kind of our "tradition" to smoke those when we are at the lake, and I had to tell her that I would not be joining her, I had quit for good. She said, "Not even just one?" I don't think she was really trying to get me to smoke, I think she was just really surprised. She did not press me to have one. Later in the evening, when the grape cigarillos got passed out, and even those who do not smoke were having one, I mentioned to hubby's 15-year old cousin that normally I would be having one too, but had quit, and he gave me a high five .
So, it definitely feels like I passed a big test. Today I am feeling kind of anxious, just kind of free-floating anxiety, and generally out of sorts. I don't feel like I want to smoke, but I know I do still need to keep my guard up, I have to be careful not to allow myself to get overly confident and work now to find and practice healthier ways to cope with anxiety and worry so I am not tempted to resort to my old crutch in a moment of weakness.
But for today, I will not smoke.
Keep going strong, friends, keep fighting the good fight!
