Hi my screen name name is PiratePop, I have been smoking for years. I am now smoking No brand and 0 cigarettes per day, at my worst I was smoking Marlboro Red brand and 25 cigarettes per day. I want to quit smoking because I want to stop getting ill and having mouth and throat problems which affect my singing. I want to keep my voice and continue to sing. I also want to have nice skin and not get 'smokers face'. I also want to look after my teeth as I get a lot of problems with them. I also want to be healthy, get my breath back and not stink of fags all the time, it's not a very attractive smell. I also want to stop wasting money on it as it is pointless. I wish I could not succumb to peer pressure and keep starting up again, I have tried to quit so many times before but I always always go back to it. I do like the routine of smoking, it helps me deal with stress but it is not good to me - I've lost track of the amount of times i have been ill and run down as a result of smoking. . I started when I was 15 years old and have tried to quit 10+ times before.

Ok young lady,,,
You have all the reasons to quit
You have all the reasons to live
You can do this
do not give in to the peer pressure this time
forget about the "routine" of smoking
they are not worth the risk
they are not worth the health problems
they are not worth the kind of money involved
The last time I was in the UK, it seems to me
that I remember them being over 5 pounds a pack
they must be much more by now
You can do this,,,
come here often, we are here to help
let us know what is going on with you
someone here has been exactly where you will be
in the coming weeks and months,,,,we can help
quit date--Dec 26, 2007
hold on tight to your dream,,,,

Hi Pirate Pop, you can do it! You can do it with support & affirmation and we got that in spades. Keep coming here, reading, noting, writing. You will see the difference. I remember when I hit my final quit, I didn't think I could do it. I had always "broke" and returned to the habit. But it's been 2 years and 3 months and I am still going strong -- and I absolutely credit this wonderful QSJ family.

Welcome to QSJ. You have found a great place to help you on your journey to quit smoking. Without QSJ I think I would have given up on the idea of quitting a long time ago. My advice to you is to come and write here and read, read, read.
There are tons of journals which will give you the much needed inspiration and support when you quit, and lots of people who will give you encouragement and advice on your journey to freedom.
Goodluck! We look forward to hearing back from you soon.
Don't dream up thousands of reasons
why you can't do what you want to; find one reason why you CAN.

Thanks everyone for your kind messages, it was great to check in this morning and see this, I think one of the main reasons for my failed previous attempts was lack of support from others. I have tried to quit so many times before, a month here, 3 months there, in 2009 I even did a whole year, but then started again on New Year's Eve! What an idiot! My family and friends are sick of hearing about me 'quitting' and have said they have kind of given up on me given up as I always always go back to it. I even quit a little while ago - end of October, and did 5 weeks cold turkey on my own, no help, support or NRT, but then had some bad luck with a few things which got me down so I started again and been smoking for another 3 weeks. I had all my xmas do's last weekend and smoked loads and I was starting to feel my throat going, and no surprise by Monday morning at work I had got a rotten cold, could be the fags, the booze or going out in silly dresses rather than wrapping up warm, whatever it is I feel awful, so I haven't smoked since Monday. I've got such a painful chesty cough on me at the moment I would be a total retard to start again when it's having such an effect. I've also got an infected wisdom tooth, so have had to see emergency dentist and get antibiotics...just what I need in the run up to xmas! :( But this has happened loads before, I get a bit ill, I quit the fags, and as soon as I'm back to being healthy and strong again I go out and about and inevitably start smoking. I never even crave them that badly anymore, I just like it and it's always been part of my rocker image, and those of us that do smoke in my social group (there aren't many that do anymore) club together as the 'bad/cool' group and are united in our addiction of standing outside in the freezing cold having a fag. Sad isn't it? Especially when a packet of cigs in the UK costs about £6.50 now! horrendous.
