I am so frustrated sometimes in this journey of being a non smoker...people in my family who have never smoked just think it should be so easy...they say well just quit...just quit....why when they say that do I suddenly want to cold cock them right in the face?.

I have now eaten enough food to sustain a small village for several weeks...

I dream about smoking...

I notice everyone smoking..on tv..on the street...in cars

I find nothing amusing anymore...

Please somebody tell me this gets better....

Lol. IT get's better. There, fixed. Feel better now. (NO). Believe me it is tough, but it does get better. I always felt like non smokers didn't understand, and smokers secretly wanted you to fail.  It is easy to feel alone. But your not. Hang in there.

I am not quitting forever, but today I chose not to smoke.

I can safely say every member on this site knows how hard this is.
Each quit is different but one thing for sure ~
It does get better!
You will laugh and smile again!
You will be so glad you went through this struggle.

Some of us will tell you it can be done.
Some of us will tell you it isn't easy but it is doable.
Some of us will even tell you it is simple...
just for today we do not smoke.
That is the simplistic reason I say it is possible
and
it really does get much, much better!

Today is the best day to not smoke!

Folks who have never quit smoking before don't and won't understand.  I am in the middle of my 8th week, and my old "smoking buddies" just look at me and say "you've got it licked then if you've made it that long."  It's still a struggle, but thankfully, the struggle isn't nearly as tough as it was those first 2 weeks!  Hang in there.  It'll all be worth it in the end.

don't worry, it does get better but it's sheer hell at first. I HATED everyone who did not smoke and never had because they had no conception of what we were going through. Yes, you eat a lot but even that gets better pretty soon -- a few weeks. You struggle, day after god damned day for a month or two or however long it takes you. Just stay in the day you are in, and you'll make it. no looking backwards or forwards. And all of a sudden you will let the fight go out of you and you will find peace. I could not have done it without this wonderful, kooky "family" here on qsj. Ilove everyone here and I ran here as many times a day as I needed. Before I found this place I was a habitual quitter who could not stay quit. Now I have 2 years and almost 5 months behind me. Yahoo.

oh YES it does get better and yes, we know how hard it can be... oh that 'cold cock 'em in the face' I REM that feeling.... so easy for them to say "just quit!"

massage your ears/hands/feet as you breathe in thru your nose.... or massage your fist when you feel like cold cocking 'em.

This is the wisest choice you have made for yourself stick with it.  We will support you !

you made 2 good choices ... the first was deciding to quit smoking; the second was signing on to this website.

non-smokers and active smokers are virtually useless when it comes to giving support and encouragement; that's where we come in . we have everything from 12 year quitters to day 1 quitters here. we know that it CAN be done, it's WORTH doing, and it DOES  get easier.

hang in there; the only way around this thing is through it. better days are on the way.

always remember,,,

and just so you know,,
all of us went through it, every quit is different,
but we all went through some kind of hell
and as far as I'm concerned,,,
go ahead and "cold cock" them
hang in there, it not only gets better
it gets so much better it's hard to describe

I promise that it DOES get better!  I have to say "quitting" ranked up there as one of the hardest things I've ever done.  I was angry, crying, and mad at the world!  I still have struggles, but I just can NOT afford to take "one" hit because I know, without a doubt, that I would be smoking again.  I hope I NEVER have to go through the withdrawals again!!!  It's truly life changing and you will stand proud one day and be delighted that YOU MADE IT!!!

HANG IN THERE!  Find out what works for YOU!  Come here as often as you need to.  You will find that it does help!

Welcome to QSJ!  I look forward to getting to know you!

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!

HI there Harper,
I know you probably did not intend this but your post brought a smile and a much needed chuckle to me! and YES I second, third, fourth and fifth what everyone has already said to you.. Not only will it get better some day but it will be the best it ever has been.. And that small village your feeding? That will pass and you will end up maybe even being thinner than when you started(if thats what you want) I remember when it seemed everywhere I looked I saw peeps 'enjoying' their sacred right to smoke!!! And not a second passed that I did not long for my habit, my best bud, my only vice, but guess what? I hardly ever think of it now and it usually is because I am annoyed that I have to smell someone else's habit! Yep I am one of those ex-smokers now.. Can't stand the smell!!! I used to purposely pas by a smoker to try and catch a whiff! LOL.. God did I really just admit that?? As hard as this feels right now, a few more months it will become like a familiar warm sweater. and after a year or so you will wonder what seemed so hard. But I want to tell you to NEVER forget how this feels so that you will remember that you NEVER want to repeat the process... You can do this.. I know you can do this. and someday I look forward to the post where you claim your happy place as a non-smoker..Until you feel secure let everyone here hold you up!!  Welcome to your brand new world:)

 Hey Harper,

IT GETS BETTER!!!!! and sooner than you think.

I remember eating a lot too but I took other's advice and started working out like crazy. Then I tried eating fruit and nuts and frozen flavored ice and things like kosher pickles that have very few calories. Also some hard candy as it is fat free. Just be careful with sugar.........it's poison in large amounts.

AGAIN, IT GETS BETTER. Hold on and ride it out. You are worth it and you can do it. I did it almost 9 years ago.

This will probably be the hardest thing you do for yourself but it does get better just hang in there,i remember my dogs wouldn't even come near me cause i had a snarl on my face for at least the first week  and as far as food it was something to stick in my mouth other than a cig and once you get the not smoking down and feel secure then you can work on the food thing if you like, but as your tastebuds come back food does taste awful good!
Like peter d says read and post daily it really helps.

Welcome!  You and I have alot in common.  I was 50 when I joined, I'm from Illinois, I too quit cold turkey.  I know exactly where you are coming from and I too thought the rest of my family didn't get it.  But you know what that really doesn't matter because we here at QSJ are here for you.  We know just what you are feeling and agree 100%.  I can remember coming here and saying the same thing.  They were all excited for me at the beginning but quickly forgot about it.  Well I didn't forget!  I was struggling just like you but you can do this.  Forget them and just concentrate on what you are doing.  It takes alot of strength, but you have that just dig deep and find it.  Good luck to you and keep coming here and read and post.

Hang in there.  This is really, really, really, hard.  And you are right, family and close ones to you don't get it.  That is why this support group is so valuable.  We understand it.....we get it.  I, too, am from Illinois.  You need to stay quit and refer to here for help.  If not, you are flirting with disaster.  (It will get better)
The first two weeks of your quit will be the hardest thing you do in your life unless you must quit again. Not one puff! --Janet--

I'm right with ya, there, I'm into my second month after a two month relapse, made it 11 months before that and I had begun to feel peace before I relapsed.  Quitting leaves us feeling empty for a time because we have used it for so very long to cope w/our emotions....we need to re-discover ourselves and get to know ourselves again...and just get happy.
