Now, I need to share with you a portion of an email I sent to Kat recently:
Kat, I have put off doing this for awhile now, but, with a sad, heavy heart, I feel I must step back from QSJ and the Quit Dates Team.
My life is so unsettled right now and I don't know what the future holds. The business Gary works for is holding it's "last gasp" sale beginning Thursday. Customers are just not buying big-ticket furniture or design services. He is sure the store will close soon. We are in a beautiful home, but its value now is below what we paid for it. I don't know how we could possibly sell it in this market. Of course, our retirement investments are shot to hell, so there's only enough for us to meet expenses for a few months!
Also, my mother is slowly getting worse; the facility where she lives has raised their price to over $5000 a month; and her nest egg is dwindling as well.
I will remember that there are others who are suffering more than I, and that Gary and I have each other and our family. We will survive.
I will also remember all of you and the support and kindness you have shown to me.And, I’ll be back to check up on everybody regularly, so administrators don’t you dare delete my journal!Hahahahaha
It's been said that sometimes in the wind of change we find our true direction. I pray that to be true.Bless you all.
Here’s another reason I will survive . . . you didn’t really think I could leave without showing off my family, did ya?Hahahahaha

Things are really bad. Americans are afraid to spend or make any investments. It's going to be a while to turn this around. Government spending has always worked in the past. Putting lots of money into the economy will certainly pay huge dividends. But the free spending lifestyles of the past are surely gone for a long, long time.

Hi Jan, I am sorry to see the stress you all are under, but I understand. This economy is hurting all of us. Randy and I are blessed that we don't have to retire yet. Our investments are in the crapper too! But hang in there. Have faith, and know that it will be okay. You all will be okay. You just will! We'll miss your beautiful Quit Dates entries, you are one of the most computer literate folks here! I'll miss your music. And we'll all miss you! Don't be gone for long now. Hugs!

Since I am a Newbie, I don't know you well but I can tell from how you write, how much you have given here & how sorely you will be missed. It's so sad reading your entry because it's reflective of what has happened all over the country. Hopefully, there will be some good things come out of the bad, some new directions.
As for going away, my sister taught me this phrase, from having spent 2 years in South American living in a small village with the natives, while working on a PhD degree. When it was time for her & J. to leave, the girls said, "Go, and come back" and that says it all, I think.
Love, Charry Lou CarrieM for Quitting this time for good!

I was reading some of my old journal entries and I found this one, dear Jan. It made me cry all over again. This is one of the reasons why so many people loved you. Thank you for reaching out to me always. And I hope with all my heart your family was singing your song to you that day.

RYN: It's actually an excerpt from a story called, They're Singing Your Song. . .
When a woman in a certain African tribe knows
she is pregnant, she goes out into the wilderness
with a few friends and together they pray and
meditate until they hear the song of the child.
They recognize that every soul has its own vibration
that expresses its unique flavor and purpose. When
the women attune to the song, they sing it out loud.
Then they return to the tribe and teach it to everyone
else.
When the child is born, the community gathers and sings the child's song to him or her. Later, when the child enters education, the village gathers and chants the child's song. When the child passes through the initiation to adulthood, the people again come
together and sing. At the time of marriage, the person hears his or her song.
Finally, when the soul is about to pass from this world, the family and friends gather at the person's bed, just as they did at their birth, and they sing the person to the next life.
To the African tribe there is one other occasion upon which the villagers sing to the child. If at any time during his or her life, the person commits a crime or aberrant social act, the individual is called to the center of the village and the people in the community
form a circle around them. Then they sing their song to them.
The tribe recognizes that the correction for antisocial behavior is not punishment; it is love and the remembrance of identity. When you recognize your own song, you have no desire or need to do anything that would hurt another.
A friend is someone who knows your song and sings it to you when you have forgotten it. Those who love you are not fooled by mistakes you have made or dark images you hold about yourself. They remember your beauty when you feel ugly; your wholeness when you are broken; your innocence when you feel guilty; and your purpose when you are confused.
You may not have grown up in an African tribe that sings your song to you at crucial life transitions, but life is always reminding you when you are in tune with yourself and when you are not. When you feel good, what you are doing matches your song, and when you feel awful, it doesn't. In the end, we shall all recognize our song and sing it well.
You may feel a little warbly at the moment, but so have all the great singers. Just keep singing and you'll find your way home.
