this is a post from 2002 I am reposting. It is worth reading. It also has a note from Lindy at the bottom. Lindy has passed away, but was one of the co-founders of this site (or the one before this QSD, anyway)  She put many links that you might find helpful. I am not sure how many still work, but worth it if you are looking for something to help motivate you to take the wisest step you have in your life... QUIT smoking!

WE all were/are scared about quitting sickerettes and living our lives without Nic… that smoke screen, crutch, whatever you used it for…

IT IS DOABLE! REALLY many of us who never ever thought we could have possibly done this, HAVE DONE IT. It is incredible!

One good helpful read is at www.smokeworm.com if you haven't quit committed to quitting, even if you have, it is good reading... I like the way it and others looked at quitting in a positive way instead of counting the hours of suffering without... and some other journals/diaries I read that helped me look at this new life in a positive way... soo....
even though you may be scared, like we were... well, you can still do it... really YOU CAN. and we will be here to support you.

On a Thankful Thursday, I copied this and share it now:
To quote Joppette

“Ah, adversity, sadness, depression, hatred, anger, fear, anxiety, all valid emotions that we all experience at some time in our lives. It is only in living through these feelings, that we learn that we will emerge from them like a butterfly from a cocoon, only if we allow these things to teach us, ony if we listen to our hearts and souls and grow from them.

I love Thankful Thursday, and I love all of you. Have a tremendously great day! Judy"

So for those of you who are scared, read, every where... PLan your quit, make lists... read other's journals for info and support on your way of quitting.
JUST DO IT NOW! (if you can and will)
Go to the Reader's Choice list and read some of those entries.

Yes there are feelings that need be dealt with along with our Nic free lives, but the breathing fresh clean air is soooo wonderful.

REM: H.A.L.T. = Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired = things you should NOT become while quitting. Watch out for these things. Take care of yourself. Plan things to do, brainless things for the first few days. Plan many walks with the dog , cat, friend, alone, whatever you prefer... Plan things to suck on, chew on, keep your hands busy, writing the serenity prayer or shelling reduced sunflower seeds, or blowing up balloon animals, crocheting... ANYTHING BUT lighting a sickerette.

Ok, enough for today. Please feel free to leave any questions, reactions or tips you have and want to share.
If you think you can't, you won't. If you THINK YOU CAN, YOU WILL. It IS your choice.

I get the chills when I see the old print outs and emails from Lindy...she is truly still with me, and with us all here <3
Do not walk behind me; I may not lead.
Do not walk in front of me; I may not follow.
Walk beside me, that we may be as One.
