I am happy that it's been a whopping big week since I was wheeled out of that hospital and on my way home. The progress in healing has been painfully slow, but it is coming, a tiny bit at a time. Of course, by now I expected that I'd be up and about, running around like normal. This surgery was a big one, a serious one, and the recovery is what it has to be. The progress is very slow. Taking a short walk is a big accomplishment right now. For now, sleeping seems to be what I'm supposed to do until the body heals again.
We went to a wedding a few months ago, and the women at our table wore these amazing big hats. They were so cute, so when they were out dancing, I grabbed one to ham it up! Now I want to envison it as my patience hat and picture this big old smile as the one I'm wearing as I continue to improve and get better! One tiny step at a time, one little day at a time. I will get there.
For now, I can't drive, or walk much. There are so many things that I took for granted that just can't be done right now. Can you imagine the joy I am gong to feel when one day I get behind the wheel and take myself somewhere? Something so simple, will become so marvelous and fresh to me. Little things that I just always assumed I'd be doing are now going to be milestones of achievement that tell me that life is so good. I want to just appreciate what I've got, while I have it, and if it has to go away for a while? The delight when it comes back is just oh so sweet!
When I was first admitted to the hospital, after the complications happened, Randy went to a meeting of the committee people helping to organize the 2nd Annual Laughfest event here in my town. Gilda's Club is putting it on, and at the end of the meeting, one of the staff handed him a T-shirt and asked if I'd be willing to have a picture taken with me wearing it, from my hospital bed. Gilda's believes that laughter is one of the best cures for cancer. I was happy to oblige.
I will get there again. One tiny step at a time. I'll probably come back here to tell you how amazing it is!

Gosh you look like you were the BRIDE! I'm glad to hear you are home and healing -- that has to be more comfy than the hospital. I wish I lived by you and could come over for a short visit, just to hold your hand or make you some soup. You are such an inspiration. Anyway, I am sending a big hug from North Idaho {{{{{Judy}}}}}
When I thought I couldn't quit smoking, I couldn't. It was when I thought I COULD, that I DID. QD: 10/01/01

You should get one of those hats for yourself, it really suits you. You look so beautiful in it.
No wonder you are such an inspirational lady to all, in hospital and that big smile on your face. Its nice to put a face to a name.
Keep healing and those little steps will become big steps.

Judy, I am so, so happy to finally see a picture of you! And not one, but two. I love the big hat but I love the picture of you in the tee shirt in the hospital bed. It looks genuinely like "you" and I will be rooting for you, praying for you day by day. Yes, we could all take pause at what you are saying: we take so much for granted, and we truly don't understand what we have. I think THE most important thing we have is our quits and we have to hold on to them for dear life. God bless you, Judy.

You look wonderful in the hat Judy. I am soooo glad that you are feeling better. One day at a time. Don't rush yourself to re- cooperate to fast. A persons body takes time to heal. Please keep us posted on how you are doing. Love seeing your posts here. I WILL STOP SMOKING THIS TIME FOR ME AND MY HEALTH.
